Verizon and the Fee Demons
When I heard about Verizon charging $2 to pay my cell phone bill as a convenience fee I thought I had heard wrong. Have you ever really looked at your cell phone bill? I finally really looked mine over the other day and my great family rate of $99 actually was averaging about $300 a month. Fees, taxes, special add ons…..is there anything more confusing than your cell phone bill?
How did they get the nerve to throw more wood on the fire? Simple. They just watched what every other corporation in the US does and merely copied their fee model. Fees for banking, fees for using your debit card, fees for credit card charges, fees for buying in Canada with a credit card, fees to check your bags, fees for making a cash deposit in your own bank, fees fro cashing checks from a different bank, fees for a blanket on an airline, want me to go on?
Verizon did change their mind, not because of fairness but because of public relations. The national complaint was massive and someone in their PR department made sure the fee idea was scrubbed.
Did we as consumers wine? Not a chance, Verizon will find another even better way to add more fees to our bill.
I wonder what they will call this one? My guess is it will be the fee to check the time on your phone fee. Speaking of time and watches, did you know that only 7% of teenagers now wear watches compare to 76% of teens in the 1950’s. Yep, cell phones. So a fee to check the time might be just what they are planning.
